LEKI is a leading global supplier of sports and outdoor equipment, specializing in the manufacture of high-quality poles and gloves. For over 75 years, LEKI has stood for innovation and sustainable German engineering. LEKI's new brand strategy and further internationalization led to the decision to replatform. Thanks to the positive experience with Shopware 5, especially the usability and the powerful CMS, it was clear that the relaunch would take place on Shopware 6.

This comprehensive ecommerce project is part of a strategic initiative and with von Affenfels, LEKI has chosen an experienced and reliable partner to continue its international expansion - keeping the customer as the centre of the project.

The challenge

When LEKI wanted to modernize its e-commerce platform in 2022, the aim of the project was to create a flexible and scalable platform that would meet LEKI's international ambitions and growing requirements. The decision was made to start afresh without migrating the data from the old shop system. 

Challenges addressed:

  • Internationalization: Integration of multiple country and language stores with their own content and currency options.

  • Linking offline and online channels and distributors so that customers have the choice of where, when and how they can experience and purchase the product range.

  • Seamless content & commerce integration: As a strong brand, LEKI needs a visually consistent platform that combines engaging content with shop functionality. Strong storytelling through content & assets and relevance through product information. Thanks to the strong CMS and other great features, this is a clear strength of Shopware for LEKI.

  • System integration: The digital sales platform is a central component of LEKI's IT landscape. In particular, the connection to the existing ERP system and the PIM were crucial in order to manage the growing amount of product data and ensure operational efficiency.

  • Efficient returns management: Returns processing in the various regions was complex and required both standardization as well as automation to make returns, exchanges and complaints as easy as possible for customers.

  • Comprehensive restructuring of the stores: Implementation of multiple independent language and currency settings for easy adaptability to LEKI's global market.

  • Seamless layout editing with Shopware Publisher: Providing a user-friendly Publisher interface that enables real-time layout previews and easier updates.

  • SEO Optimization: Integration of SEO Professional for a fully optimized store with good visibility in major search engines.

  • Middleware for system integration: Development of Von Affenfel's own middleware that enables smooth communication between Shopware 6 and LEKI's ERP and supports automated order, delivery and return processes.

  • Automated returns portal: Development of an efficient returns management system that automates and simplifies the process for customers.

  • Improved customer support: Integration of an FAQ manager to answer common questions and improve customer service.

  • Enhanced media management with Cloudinary: The Cloudinary integration, supported by AI, enables the automatic adaptation of media content to different end devices and thus improves the user experience

  • Precise address verification: Integration of endereco address management for accurate customer data.

A seamless partnership

von Affenfels managed the project and accompanied LEKI through every step of the migration to Shopware 6, including:

  • Project start and planning: As a basis for the smoothest possible migration, the requirements were agreed and defined at the beginning and milestones were defined. Requirements were specified, adapted and milestones adjusted in regular exchanges.

  • Development and test phases: Setting up a robust Shopware 6 infrastructure, carrying out integration tests with ERP, PIM and other systems to ensure consistency.

  • Implementation and training: Implementation of the solution, training of the LEKI team to maximize usability and efficiency.
