Shopware bolsters global senior leadership team, taps Joachim Weber as CFO

NEW YORK (October 6, 2023)—Today, leading open source ecommerce platform Shopware, announced the appointment of Joachim Weber as Global Chief Financial Officer (CFO). The move comes on the heels of an action-packed third quarter, which included a series of new partnerships and recognition as a Visionary in the 2023 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ report, and is indicative of the company’s broader international growth ambitions.

“Joachim joins Shopware at a very exciting time for our business, as we double down on our efforts to drive growth in international markets,” said Stefan Hamann, Co-CEO at Shopware. “Thanks to his track record in the software and data industries, Joachim understands our business and our product offering. Coupled with his analytical mindset and strategic outlook, this will allow him to make a contribution right away. I truly look forward to what we will achieve together.”

As CFO, Weber will ensure Shopware continues to drive profitable growth and capital efficiency on a global scale, working closely with Shopware’s founders, Stefan and Sebastian Hamann, as well as its investors and management team to drive value creation.

“Just like the Hamann brothers, I am also a fervent believer in the power of data-driven decision-making,” said Weber. “Not only does Shopware have a distinct, competitive offering in the ecommerce market but works hand-in-hand with an impressive range of clients to help them improve and grow their omnichannel digital offering. I’m eager to dig in, get to work and ensure that as a company, we will consistently deliver attractive results.”

Weber most recently served as Deputy CFO at Qontigo, a leading global player in the financial index and risk management software industry. He was instrumental in integrating and building out the finance function of the business after its merger of Switzerland-based STOXX Ltd. and US-based Axioma Inc. He was previously Head of Strategy for the data and index arm of Deutsche Börse Group, where he helped develop and drive business strategy.

He will be based in Schöppingen and takes over the CFO seat from Ralf Marpert, who spent two years in the role but a further nine years as Director of Finance, People & Culture at Shopware, a point echoed by Hamann: “Our gratitude goes out to our outgoing CFO, Ralf Marpert, for all the work he has done in getting us this far in our journey.”
