Schöppingen, November 28, 2024 – Shopware, the leading global open-source ecommerce platform, has once again secured its position as the market leader among eCommerce platforms in Germany, according to the latest study by the EHI Retail Institute in collaboration with eCommerceDB. This ranking, based on the top 1,000 business-to-consumer (B2C) stores in Germany by sales, highlights Shopware’s continued growth and its commitment to innovation in the digital retail landscape.
The study revealed that Shopware is the preferred eCommerce platform for 12% of the top 1,000 online stores in Germany, representing 120 of the highest-performing retailers. This marks Shopware’s third year at the forefront, reflecting steady growth and a widening lead over competitors like Magento.
A journey of growth and recognition
Shopware’s journey to the top began in 2021 with an 11.5% market share and a strong second-place position. By 2022, Shopware claimed the top spot, further increasing its market share to 12% in 2023. These achievements highlight the impact of Shopware 6’s robust product maturity and the company’s open-source philosophy, which has resonated strongly with merchants in Germany.
While Shopware celebrates its success, the EHI and eCommerceDB study also sheds light on broader market trends. For the first time in 15 years, the total turnover of Germany’s leading online retailers saw a slight decline, dropping by 0.2% to €77.5 billion in 2023. However, the market shows signs of stabilization, and projections for 2024 suggest modest growth to €78.3 billion.
Shopware expresses its gratitude to the merchants and partners who continue to trust and support its vision. As the eCommerce landscape evolves, Shopware remains dedicated to empowering businesses with tools and solutions designed for success in an ever-changing digital world.
